The Power of Being Seen
With the launch of Aligned Life's new website, which brings exciting coaching and growth programs, I felt it was the perfect moment to share an area of growth that has been deeply connected to many of our stories and personal to me, being seen.
What Does It Mean to Be Seen?
Being seen is more than just being physically visible. It’s about acknowledgment, acceptance, and authenticity.
Acknowledgment
Being recognized for who you are, without having to hide parts of yourself.
Acceptance
Allowing yourself to exist as you are, in all your fullness, with no need for validation or change.
Authenticity
Showing up as your true self, even when it feels vulnerable.
Why Being Seen Can Be Difficult
For years, I went out of my way not to be seen. I avoided being a burden to anyone, refrained from speaking my mind, didn’t use social media, avoided photos, and even covered my face at times. The concept of being seen didn’t fully hit me until I reflected on it, and I realized that my fear of being seen was tied to past consequences. Speaking out and making myself visible often led to negative reactions from people I trusted.
This pattern, repeated over time, can build invisible barriers that leave you feeling more comfortable being unseen.
How Do You Start Unpacking These Barriers?
If being seen doesn’t come naturally to you, unraveling the past and understanding where the fear stems from can feel overwhelming. But it’s possible to break through.
Reflect on past experiences
Consider moments when you tried to be seen or heard and what happened afterward.
Challenge your beliefs
Ask yourself, “Am I hiding because I’m afraid, or because of past pain?”
Start small
Begin showing up in spaces where you feel safe. It might be sharing a personal post online or speaking up in a supportive group.
How Being Seen Benefits You
Once you begin to shed the fear of being seen, you’ll experience these benefits:
Empowerment
• Standing in your truth gives you a sense of confidence and self-assurance.
Deeper Connections
• Authentic relationships form when you show up as your true self.
Alignment
• You will begin living more in tune with your values, goals, and sense of purpose.
What Are the Consequences of Being Seen?
While there are benefits, being seen may bring some challenges:
Negative Reactions
Not everyone will celebrate your growth. But remember, if being seen brings negativity, then those people are not your target audience.
Vulnerability
Putting yourself out there can be uncomfortable, but it’s a necessary step for growth.
The Key to Being Seen
The ultimate key to being seen is understanding that it is an act of self-love and alignment. By choosing to be visible, you honor your authentic self. Surround yourself with people who encourage your growth and support your journey.
Grateful to walk this path of self discovery together.
With love,
Aysia
